Begedil is also known as deep fried potato patty generally eaten with Malaysian curries. Crisp on the outside and tender on the inside.

Serves: 4-6

Time: 40 mins.


1 ¼ pounds potato, washed, peeled and cut into circles

2 beaten eggs, large

Half bunch of fresh cilantro, finely chopped

Black pepper, white pepper and salt to taste

½ cup fried shallots

A bunch of spring onion, finely chopped

Oil, enough for frying


  1.   Boil the potatoes over moderate heat until completely soft; mash them and add the entire chopped ingredients into the mashed potatoes; thoroughly mix.
  2.   Season well and make medium sized balls from the mixture using the palms.
  3.   Coat the begedil into the beaten eggs and fry for a couple of minutes, until turn lightly browned.
